i don't have an AE1 in front of me, but in most cameras with replaceable backs, if you open the back and look at the inside of the hinge you'll see a small pin protruding from the hinge... pull thi sdown with a fingernail and one hinge pin retracts, releasing the back from the camera. now all you have to do is find another back to put on.
