I am everything but a Super 8 expert but AFAIK the perforation holes on Super-8 are much smaller than on 8mm. I faintly remember that 8mm film was derived from split 16mm film but maintained the same size of perforation holes. To make the useable image size bigger Kodak reduced the size of the holes significantly.
