: i have a broken zenit-e. does anyone know if there is an adapter which will allow me to fit the various zenit lenses to the japanese cameras such as canon.

Most Zenit Es used the M42 (Pentax) thread, from memory, so any adaptor designed to link an old Pentax screw-thread lens to a modern camera should work. The odds are that you're in America, so a quick call to any decent camera store there should do the trick. Otherwise, there's a British company that advertises M42-Canon/Minolta autofocus (and Canon FD manual-focus) cameras for about $35. You'll find them at www.srbfilm.co.uk. I'm sure they'd be glad to mail one to you, wherever you are.

Obviously, the Zenit-fit lenses you have won't operate most of the features on the new cameras, including metering, unless they have a stop-down mode, which I suspect they don't.

And the preset diaphragm on the Zenit-fit lenses is pretty primitive, even by manual-focus standards.

It might make more sense to find another E (which might well cost less than an adaptor) or an elderly screw-thread Pentax such as an SV.

Good luck

If I were you, I'd pick .
