: hi,
: my 13 yr old daughter is paralyzed on the right side. i need info on cameras or camcorders that are left hand user friendly. any useful info would be greatly appreciated. thank you,

I know of no cameras or camcorders designed for left-handed use, but you may be able to remedy this.

What you will need:
(1) an autofocus 35mm camera with power winder which accepts a cable release.
(2) an L-shaped flash bracket with built-in handle and strap. (Generic flash brackets run about $16.) Here's a photo of one http://www.bugeyedigital.com/product_main/kal-nplbrack.html
(3) a cable release at least 12" in length (measure the distance required)

The flash bracket will give your daughter an extremely sturdy grip for her left hand. Screw the cable release into the camera shutter button, snake the cable release under the front of the camera, attach it to the flash bracket with a couple of pieces of wire or twist ties so the cable release trigger is pointed up and positioned approximately where her left thumb can trigger the camera. With autofocus and a winder advancing the film to the next frame, she should be able to shoot the whole roll one-handed and have no fears of dropping the camera (for extra protection, I'd attach a comfortable wide strap to the camera then she can let the camera hang around her neck until she sees something she wants to photograph.)

I hope your daughter comes to love photography.

Some camcorders have dual triggers and should work fine on a flash bracket.
