I thought about that just before answering originally, but didn't think those film types were still being offered. As you say, the quality of those films and prints were very good, only hard to get developed except from the company providing them.
Not only that, George, for a very reasonable additional fee they would send you slides from the same negs along with the prints. I've been out of the USA for several years so don't know if they are still in business and providing this service or not.
Usually if the film, free or otherwise is C-41 compatible it will say so on the cassette or box.
