Julie,

I agree with everything John has said so far. Some of the cheaper early SLR cameras with electronic shutters (such as the OM10) have problems after a while. Canon AE-1s are notorious for this. I would think the service will cost you around
$100. Personally, I wouldn't pay it. What I would do is hop on eBay and find an OM-1 body for use with your existing lenses and flashes. (it will probably cost around $100) OM-1s are fully mechanical, so you won't have the problems you are describing with the OM-10. Just exercise the shutter at least once a month, and you will be good to go.

I am an Olympus fan from way back, and I've found that the OM1Ns are better than the original OM1s.

The only problem you might have with this camera is finding a proper battery.

Do you shoot slide film? If so, pass on the OM1. It was designed to take a 625 mercury battery, which is no longer made in the USA. I've heard that they can still be bought from Canada and China though... If you don't shoot slides, just go to your local Radio Shack and find a PX625 alkaline battery for it. The voltage difference between mercury and alkaline won't make a difference with slide film.

Good luck!
