: : I am a long time user of Minolta cameras (XG-1 from the mid 70's) Just bought a used "X-700" (no operator's manual). I don't have a clue as to how it stacks up to the rest of the market as to quality and value.

: : Second, it came with a Cosina 28-70---1:4---Macor Zoom. Never heard of them.

: : What say you about how these two products rate with the others out there.

: : If you would, please send your responses to the attached email address, plus

: : Thanks,

: Reply- You've got a great camera, which feels just right, and has four exposure modes; including Program, metered manual, aperture priority, and Through the lens flash, with dedicted flash units (TTL). If you love your XG-1, I expect you'll adore your X-700. It could well be the best Minolta manual camera ever made , although it has never enjoyed the applause given to Minolta's SRT series cameras. It does, however, require the use of Minolta's MD lenses to fully use all of its exposure modes, suchas as the Program mode.

: Cosina is a well known Japanese camera company. It
: has produced many cameras for name brand companies, and has produced many lenses for them as well, adhering to their specifications. It has
: also produced its own line of cameras, and has produced aftermarket lenses under its own brand name for many years. I don't know how well the Cosina zoom lens compares one-on-one to Minolta's, but unless you are amongst the most critical of professionals, you probably won't notice any appreciable difference. And,even as a
: professional, you probably would be happy with the results. Aftermarket lenses made by companies like
: Cosina,Kiron,Vivitar,Kalimar, etc. are cost efficient alternatives to the often astronomically priced name brand products.

: Good luck with your X-700, and enjoy it!

: George.
