: : Hi again, a girl at work heard about me looking for a cheap camera and lens, and said that her uncle has some stuff to sell,

: : Pentax P30
: : Sigma zoom-master f=35~70mm lens
: : Tokina SZ-X 60-300mm lens
: : Centon MC mirror f=500mm lens
: : T2 mount for Centon lens

: : She's asking about UK£180 but I think I can get her down to UK£150, what do you guys think? is this a good price for this?

: : Thanks once again,

: Frank Frank Frank .... Just my opinion but that's a plastic, made in China piece of bound to break garbage. If it's not broken already. Will ya screw your head on straight and start looking for something in the line of a Canon AE-1, Pentax K-1000. or even an older Spotmatic Pentax. Lots of accy's available for these cameras at every camera show or Pawn shop and the most important factor >> they are reliable!

: Dont' stop asking questions .. that's how we all learned ...

Frank is right that newer cameras have more plastic in them--in fact anything after about 1980 will have lots more plastic including the AE-1 Program, and the later K1000's.

If you are going to buy used and invest that much money, see if you can have the equipment for a test period, maybe a few days so you can see what you think, from USING it. Of course, this might be risky, if the seller tries to pin any defects that may already be in existence on you. So have the seller fully explain the operation, so you can see that the camera is working properly, and learn what to do.

Or you can go on one of the auction boards and buy something cheap, after asking lots of questions to determine that the camera is working. Here is a gallery of Ricoh, Chinon, Pentax and Sears cameras:

Some of the Ricoh and Chinon K and screw mount cameras offer a better value than the more sought after Pentax cameras.

Then there is always the Nikon FM. A rugged camera, that gets you into the Nikon line without putting you in the poorhouse. Or maybe a Canon EF?--I could go on forever, and I guess that is the dilemma.
