I'm a student at Lin-Wood Public School, and I was given a Minolta Hi-Matic E camera to use, but I'm not sure because of how old it is, if it took a certain voltage battery or what?? i'm not even completely sure about what battery size it takes, if anyone could help me in anyway with any information on this, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Lindsay

The Minolta HiMatic E camera takes two RM640 mercury batteries which are not sold in the USA anymore due to the government. I don't know of any replacement for this battery.

Try the alkaline version, known as the PX640a. It might not be a perfect replacement for the mercury PX640, but it may be the next best thing. Most camera stores should be able to get the alkaline version. The mercury batteries are no longer available from any sources which I'm aware of.
Editor's Note: The alkaline version of the PX-640 may produce underexposed pictures because of the slightly higher voltage. Try cutting your film speed in half to compensate for this, i.e. shoot ISO 400 film at ISO 200 and examine the results.
