I don't remember the self timer, but the camera firing in the "off" position is not a defect. the Olympus OM10 and OM2 were both designed to do this so that you wouldn't miss a shot by forgetting to turn it on: the OTF metering system turns itself on as the mirror rises, makes the correct exposure and then shuts itself back off. It will not make an exposure longer than 1/30 second (as I recall) in the 'off' position, so you won't drain your battery by trying to make a time exposure in the bottom of your camera bag (not a huge issue with the OM10, but the OM2 could hold the shutter open for one or two minutes in the dark. -- rick
