: I have been given a minolta A5 1000. Anyone know anythng about this camera? I have the original owner's manual and it doesn't say anything about the year it was made. Believe it or not, the camera still works. Any info you can provide would really be appreciated. Please e-mail me with your response. Thanks

Hi There Maddy! Your A5 1000 Minolta was made in 1960, and will either have an f2.8 or f2.0 45mm fixed Rokkor lens. Yours is, according to the 1998 Mckeown's "Bible", worth between US$55 and $85, and is actually a Japanese domestic market model; the export (USA) model only had a top speed of 1/500 sec whereas yours should have 1/1000 sec. Maybe it slipped in with some Cuban cigars!!!! It is certainly a collectable item, so look after it mate! Regards from Peter Naylor.
