BACKGROUND: I bought a Nikon Nuvis S Zoom for my trip to New Zealand. The zoom mechanism broke w/ the lens extended the 1st week of the trip. I was forced to carry the camera for 2 months in my luggage, virtually unprotected, w/ just a piece of lens paper over the lens.
Upon return to the states, I contacted Nikon Customer Service both by telephone and by letter. Nikon REFUSED to replace the camera, despite the fact that it was an obvious lemon. They almost didn't pay the postage to have the camera sent in for repairs.
In addition, I soon experienced the disapointment of the APS format coupled w/ the crappy Nuvis lens. Consistently, the photos from the disposable 35mm cameras I used on the trip were superior to those photos taken w/ the Nuvis. When I purchased this relatively expensive P&S camera w/ the Nikon name, I really expected so much more.
I purchased the camera in December of 1999. With tax & warranty, the camera's total price was about $300.00. I considered that $300.00 to be an investment, a vote of confidence for Nikon and their products. Based on my experience, Nikon does not stand behind their products.
What is the deal w/ Nikon Customer Service?

I owe a retraction and apology to Nikon and its loyal Defenders!!! after I contacted the proper folks with Nikon they resolved my problems in a very short time.
editor's note: Rick is referring to a complaint regarding a different piece of Nikon equipment. His original message has already been removed.
