The Asahi K1000 is the older style. Pentax never made a K1000 that had a shutter that travels from top to bottom. Your K1000 curtains travel from left to right with a sync speed of 60th sec. There were many changes from old to new but the shutter has remained the same.

: Is there a difference in shutter between the older and the newer Pentax k-1000 cameras? Mine has a cloth shutter and moves upward and downward. I believe it is one of the older ones because it had "Asahi Optical Company" or something written on the side and it has a metal film advance lever instead of a plastic one. If you know anything, please leave a reply. Thanks
