I have picked up a Canon A1 which I dropped 1 month later and broke, then I purchased a Canon AE-1 for under $175 Canadian. All from a hockshop. I buy most of my manual camera's from the hockshop, due to that fact that they don't make them anymore, plus you can usually find ones that are in excellent condition (depends on what type of hockshop you go to). Living in Chicago I imagine there are a few around. Take a look there. You can even try www.ebay.com, or go to your local camera store and ask them for advice.
