: This may sound like a very basic question but does anyone have any experience with the best way to clean expensive lenses. I have a Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM (expensive for me) and managed to get considerable dust on the lens itself while waiting to get a properly sized UV filter. I have lens cleaning cloth and solution but am really worried about even touching the surface of this lens. Is it possible to scratch them easily? What is the most effective method of cleaning, is there specific supplies that I should purchase (air brush etc.) should I even use a cleaning cloth? I guess it would help to know just how sensitive the glass on these lenses is? Any help would be apprecited.

: Thanks,

You are right about being concerned over scratching a good lens. They do get scratched very easily, more than the general public realize, even multicoated lenses.
A cleaning cloth gets dirty very fast.
I use cleaning tissues and solution for lenses.
An old cleaning formula is 50% alcohol, 50% distilled water which I used a lot over the years.
A small air brush is more recommended but sometimes is not enough to get rid of heavy dust and its hair has to be very soft, preferably camel.

Have a great time
