: I have a pentax camera. There is a button labeled SW. Anyone know what this is for? I also have a problem with developing. The pictures either do not turn out at all or are half perfect and half blank. Please help.

First thing, you failed to mention which model Pentax camera you have so I'm not going to venture a guess as to what the SW button means.

If you are getting back photos with each picture half okay and half black, this is probably because you are setting the camera at too high a shutter speed to synchronize with the flash. Most older cameras MUST be set on 1/60 of a second or slower to take flash pictures. (A few older cameras are able to synchronize at 1/125 of a second.) Take a look at the shutter speed dial and the correct speed for flash pictures will either be in a different color or there will be an "X" next to the speed or a small lightning bolt.

If this problem is happening on non-flash pictures, the only other possible explanation is your focal plane shutter is failing and one of the shutter curtains is not functioning properly. In this case, you'll have to have the shutter overhauled which will cost at least $125 or more.
