: I'm a college bound senior in high school and I'm looking to buy a new camera for my upcoming classes. I've recently been using an ancient (1974) 35mm manual Ricoh that died on me last month. Any advise that can be given as to what's a good deal, what style/brands are the best, and what might be good for someone like me would be very much appreciated.
As a SLR camera user, you may be surprised to how good some
Point & Shoot cameras are now, like the Olympus Zoom 140.
It really depends on what you want to do and how serious you want
to get.
I would recommend yuo take a look at the Ace Index FAQ section What camera should
I buy. Although apparently addressed to first camera buyers I
believe it contains sound advice and will also refer you to
another very good resource at Philip
Greenspun's What should I ...
I you really want to make great shots, continue in 35mm SLR and
be ready to spend no less than 60% en the lens and 50% on the
body if other than a good 50mm.The best in the industry is the
Nikon and costs only about $80.
Have a great time.
