: Greetings all. I have a Canon AE-1 that has served me faithfully for
: about 20 years now! I recently found that my Canon Speedlite 177a is no
: longer functional due to teen sons mis-use of my equipment.
: Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good replacement
: flash unit. The 177a has a bounce flash capability and I
: am looking for pretty much the same type of equipment.
: Any help would be apreciated!

: Thanks, Ron

Dear Ron:
Yes I know the feeling. I did have a teenager son.
(Now is a young adult, although with the same cassual approach to equipment, as if it were disposable).
I wopuld suggest to get another Canon dedicated flash. Take a look at:
http://www.usa.canon.com/camcambin/cameras/speedlite/380ex.html
I had a couple of Vivitar flashes I used as slave units and they simply vanished from earth as if swallowed by a black hole.
In due time one must remember that kids are more precious than tools, although I must recognize it is difficult at times.
Have a great time.
