: hi there i was wondering if could possibly get some feedback
on this.
: i have a pentax zx-7 and plan to use a 28-80 af zoom lens, i'm
wondering if i should purhchase the vivitar 840af flash?
: the vivitar 285 hv has come highly recommended however i've been told that the 285hv wont work on af cameras unless i get a pc cord. is this correct?
: which do you think would produce better quality pics?
: i plan on shooting a live concert so i need as much light as i
can possibly get.
Vivitar 283 and 285 flash units, unless brand new versions, are dangerous to use with newer electronic cameras (that includes anything using an autofocus lens.) The trigger voltage of older Vivitar 283 and 285 flash units is powerful enough to fry the electronics in your camera. Buy a flash specifically designed for your camera. No, it is not true the Vivitar 283 or Vivitar 285 require a PC cord; if the camera has a hot shoe, the flash will work (at the risk of burning out your camera.)
Secondly, electronic flash at live concerts is almost universally a no-no. You could find your attendance cut short if you take flash pictures of a performance.
